“The City of San Jose has entered into an agreement with the Harvard University Graduate School of Design for an Urban Design Studio Project to begin identifying possibilities for the future of San Jose’s Diridon Station and its adjacent surroundings.

The project, “New Ways: San Jose/Silicon Valley,” will offer a creative vision that will support overall economic development goals, enhance grant funding opportunities for the station expansion, and complement other planning taking place in preparation for the start of California’s new high-speed rail service.”

Portland Set to Consider Urban Chicken Ordinance – MPBN

The urban chicken movement is on the move again – and may be coming to Maine’s biggest city. Portland city councilors will hear from residents on Wednesday about the pros and cons of keeping chickens in the backyard. Two years ago, the South Portland city council voted to join the growing list of municipalities across the U.S. that have adopted chicken ordinances, which allow people to keep limited types of poultry, under certain conditions.

“With rapid urbanisation going hand in hand with crumbling infrastructure in towns and cities, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee raised the
allocation for the government’s flagship programme — Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission — to Rs 11,842 crore from Rs 10,447.98 crore in 2008-09.

The government has already sanctioned 386 projects worth Rs 39,000 crore under the seven-year mission which started in 2005, aiming to pursue reform, good governance and planned development in urban areas……”

“Landscape architect Anouk Vogel and architect Johan Selbing have won a competition to design new lighting and furniture for the Vondelpark in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

NEW PARK FURNITURE FOR A DUTCH NATIONAL HERITAGE
The last jewels are added to the crown after ten years of renovation of the Vondelpark.

A professional jury has unanimously chosen the design of Anouk Vogel
and Johan Selbing as the winning proposal in a competition for the new
park furniture of the Vondelpark in Amsterdam.”
