The Chicago Park District along with JJR and Studio Gang will unveil and present the Northerly Island Framework Plan this week. The island is set to continue the transformation from airport into a lush green oasis for the citizens of Chicago. Northerly Island Planning recently posted some Planning Process Design Images (see above & below) to their Facebook page that gives some clues on what will be unveiled and presented on this Thursday December 2 at 6:30 p.m. at The Chicago Architecture Foundation, 224 S. Michigan Ave. on the 1st Floor.

With just under 150 days to go before the opening of 2011 International Horticultural Exhibition to be held in Xian, China (西安, 陕西) construction is in full swing on the gardens including West 8’s Garden of 10.000 Bridges (pictured above).
Gardens are telling stories; they are poetry and have a narrative. Our garden represents the human life, the path of people’s lifetime. This path is a path of uncertainty and burden. Many bridges over troubled water. The garden design takes this path of life as a meandering, winding road – continuous and like a labyrinth. The path through nature takes you over 10000 bridges.
For the 2011 Xi’an International Horticulture Exhibition, West 8 designed a Master Landscape Architect Garden, that plays with the limits and the sensation of surprise.

Recently Starr Whitehouse unveiled three concepts for a section of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) – a trenched Interstate (I-278)in New York. The concepts where presented to the community, elected City and Congress officials and representatives from DOT and DPR. Starr Whitehouse developed the designs in consultation with the community through workshops and were seen as ‘…an achievable vision for enhancing the pedestrian and cyclist environment above the BQE, adding green components and improving the physical connection and sociability among adjacent neighborhoods’.

SRG Partnership, a Portland architecture and planning firm, is heading up a world-class team of consultants who will help the Oregon Zoo chart a course for the next 25 years, zoo officials said. SRG, along with CLR Design, Atelier Dreiseitl and a cadre of subconsultants, will spend the next year evaluating zoo operations and creating a master plan for projects funded by the $125 million zoo bond measure passed in 2008. Their plan is expected to be complete by fall 2011.

The Minneapolis City Council approved the selection of oslund.and.associates as the landscape architect for the revitalization of Peavey Plaza. The firm was selected for the quality of its design for projects such as Gold Medal Park and Target Plaza in Minneapolis as well as its ability to lead projects involving extensive public participation, such as the new I-35W bridge project in Minneapolis.
Oslund’s team additionally includes Charles Birnbaum of The Cultural Landscape Foundation, M.P. Friedberg, original designer of the plaza, Dan Euser Waterarchitecture and Shuler & Shook Lighting Design. The team’s portfolios of additional projects include the World Trade Center Memorial in New York, Mellon Square Park in Pittsburgh and Battery Park City in New York.
