Responding to the needs of its growing client base overseas, Burt Hill announces the establishment of an International Studio. This full-service studio, which offers architectural, site, engineering, and creative services, will support and expand the capabilities of the firm’s existing offices abroad in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, UAE and Ahmedabad, India, while also strengthening its resources in the United States. The new studio will be housed in Burt Hill’s Pittsburgh office and increase its current Pittsburgh-based team in the upcoming year.

Construction work is underway on The Grand, one of the largest vertically-integrated, mixed-use projects under construction in the nation. The multi-phase 3.6 million square foot development spanning three city blocks will cost an estimated $3 billion to develop. Phase I has been designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry for the project developer, Related Companies.

Brad Pitt launched his own regeneration project for Katrina-ravaged New Orleans yesterday, unveiling designs for a range of eco-friendly and flood-proof homes.
Pitt, who had ambitions to be an architect if he had not taken up acting, commissioned 13 architectural firms to produce houses that would incorporate solar power and other environmentally-sound designs.

Moshe Safdie, the world-renowned architect behind Montreal’s Habitat 67, has been squeezed out of drawing up the master plan for the future hospital of the McGill University Health Centre, The Gazette has learned.
The MUHC announced with great fanfare in November 2006 that it had hired Safdie to design the hospital to be built on the site of the former Glen railway yard in the city’s west end.
