This week, the Flatiron / 23rd Street Partnership Business Improvement District (BID) and Van Alen Institute unveiled SOFTlab’s Nova, the winner of the Flatiron Public Plaza Holiday Design Competition that serves as the centerpiece of the Partnership’s annual holiday programming and a highly visible landmark in this thriving neighborhood of New York. The second annual competition of its kind, the initiative called for proposals from New York design firms for a temporary installation for the holidays at the heart of the Flatiron District.

The redevelopment of south London’s vast Aylesbury Estate is being masterplanned by HTA Design LLP for Notting Hill Housing Group. Having led the successful bid, HTA is working as lead designer on the first phase with Hawkins Brown and Mae Architects.

The olive is a dynamic and unique residential development that unfolds behind the leafy rise of Goodwood Hill along the tree lined Balmoral Road. The site is constrained and flat in aspect. The challenge for landscape was how to make best use of the limited space in order to create useable external areas, maximise views, amenities and planting to enhance the development’s residential offer, and provide an environmental enhancement appropriate for the surroundings and district context.

The setting of the given shaded landscape area under building canopy has inspired the main concept. Resident arrives home into a grand cave-like hall beneath the building with hundreds of ‘Floating Sculpture’ symbolizing stalactite at the center as focal point.

When Gabriele D’Annunzio composed his wonderful lyric in that summer afternoon of the early years of 1900, this pinewood must have been an enchanted place. Wild but familiar, full of a natural chaos that could soothe a soul even during rainy days. A place capable of transforming two secret lovers into a beautiful fairytale. More than one hundred years have passed but people can still breathe that same atmosphere here in Versilia. And that is how people feel while walking in this pinewood touched by the Fiumetto river also painted by Carlo Carrà in many of his paintings.
The owner fall in love with this damaged pinewood and the manor house at first sight while visiting Versilia in 2007. The owner’s desire was to recreate an oasis of peace in the heart of worldliness, a natural microcosm at the edge of the world.

The terrace is situated on the top floor of an historic building (about XVII sec.). About 140 square meters and has a breath taking view of the Mediterranean sea. The terrace started out as a flat surface and is now promontory with a beautiful panorama.
