RIBA Competitions are delighted to announce the launch of a new international design competition for Vauxhall on London’s South Bank. Vauxhall is at the heart of a huge new Area of Opportunity and Vauxhall One, the Business Improvement District (BID) for Vauxhall, are seeking design ideas to improve and enhance the public realm, providing the ‘Missing Link’ between the New US Embassy Quarter and the cultural offering of London’s South Bank.

The University of Manitoba in partnership with Manitoba Hydro has launched an international design competition seeking visionary design proposals for its 279-hectare (690-acre) Fort Garry Campus in Winnipeg, Canada. The campus includes the Southwood Lands, a 49-hectare (120-acre) former golf course that will become a new “sustainable” neighbourhood within the university boundaries.
The 31st Street Harbor, one of the largest harbors built in Chicago in the last 50 years, transforms an underused portion of Lake Michigan lakeshore into a new public amenity. Unlike traditional harbors that are typically commercial ventures, this project took the approach of integrating the 1,000-slip marina with a park, melding high-tech engineering with thoughtful place-making. As we enter December and start to look back at landscape architecture projects of 2012, there is one project that stands out – The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. A park that involved numerous landscape architecture firms and allied professionals.
