Adelaide Contemporary International Design Competition

The competition’s objective is to seek out an exceptional design team for the Adelaide Contemporary project, identifying the very best design talent both nationally and internationally. Arts South Australia is a progressive patron and encourages creative collaborations between emerging and established practices, between local and international practices, and across design disciplines.

Arts South Australia is looking for architect-led creative teams with expertise in architecture and landscape architecture. Teams might also include a way-finding specialist, an access consultant and, if appropriate, an artist or other creative contributors. Engineering disciplines, cost consultancy, and project management will be procured separately by the client.

The competition is being run in accordance with the procurement requirements of the Government of South Australia. The Competition Conditions have been submitted to the Australian Institute of Architects for review and formal endorsement of the Conditions under the Institute’s Architectural Competition Policy.

The competition jury will be chaired by Michael Lynch AO CBE. The full jury will be announced during the competition’s first stage.

STAGE ONE: EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
An open call for participation that is aimed at attracting outstanding, dedicated teams to register their interest in the project. This is open to all qualified architects and landscape architects who meet the requirements as described in the Competition Conditions.

STAGE TWO: CONCEPT DESIGN
The shortlisted teams will be given a further detailed briefing and will be invited to a site visit and competition seminar in Adelaide in late January 2018. Finalists will subsequently produce concept designs. These teams will need to include an architect registered with the Australian Institute of Architects. An honorarium of AU$90,000 will be paid to each shortlisted team that submits a compliant tender. A technical panel will review the entries and produce a report for the jury, who will conduct interviews and select a winner.
Further details can be found in the  Competition Conditions.
