A visionary plan
Dominion Bridge is a visionary plan that transforms an abandoned industrial complex into a vibrant mixed-use eco-district. Open space, connectivity, and the site’s genius loci are given precedence, creating a welcoming environment that supports accessible, convivial urban living at a human scale. Its immense scale and complexity necessitated an integrated design process that brought together multiple professionals whose global solution is innovative, functional and artful.

Reversing the fortunes of a London High Street | HASSELL

CroydonSthEnd_HASSELL_01_JakobS

The Croydon South End High Street regeneration was the first in a programme of projects being delivered by the London Borough of Croydon to renew and enhance key high streets in the area.

As one of the areas significantly impacted by the civic disorder in 2011, Croydon’s South End High Street was suffering from a vacancy rate almost double the nation’s average. Pedestrians gave way to busy traffic and the shop fronts, streetscapes and public spaces were in desperate need of repair.

Senior City | Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy | Alessandro Tessari, Matteo Bandiera, Gianluca Parcianello & Fausta Occhipinti

The sense of identity of a place is its capability to develop through time without losing its own character and keeping its values, forms and traditions; the project of the new residence for senior citizens in Cortina comes from a deep reflection about particular state and place. On the one hand, the physical context of the proposal is a natural slope in the historic area of Chiave, in the North of Cortina, from where it is possible to glance towards a spectacular mountain landscape. On the other hand, the cultural and technological context formed on a basis of traditional constructional logic has modelled the aspect of Cortina throughout the centuries.

Downtown Fenwick Revitalization | Fenwick, Canada | The Planning Partnership

DSC02697

In 1790, a confluence of agricultural trade routes resulted in the settlement of Fenwick, Ontario. Not unlike other rural communities, Fenwick grew as it needed to, with infrastructure built as required; never a cohesive vision, and always catering to vehicular and commercial priority. This project celebrates the re-envisioning of this community with a town centre, accessed by a revitalized the main street, Canboro Road and activated by furnishings implying a sense of pride and newfound sense of place.

City Hall Square | Viborg, Denmark | LIW planning

       viborg_14

Viborg’s central role in the history of Denmark is today reflected in the city’s historical core, which in its structure also appears as a classical medieval town. The new City Hall square is placed in a former barrack area on the edge of the historic centre, and the classic sense of the town square as the city’s central public space is thus blurred. The central question in this project is therefore how to create a contemporary, welcoming and relevant reinterpretation of the City Hall square in a new context.

Ananas New Community | Manila, Philippines | Sasaki Associates

06_Ananas_Hub

In recent decades, the Philippines has witnessed consistent population and economic growth. Official statistics estimate the country will grow by 50 million people in the next 35 years, straining already congested and rapidly expanding metropolitan areas such as Manila. This growth comes at the expense of agricultural land, compromising the lifeline of existing communities and the food supply of future generations. Single-use gated communities are the norm, whose poor public realm and connectivity force residents to drive to their everyday needs. A complete disregard for natural systems has exacerbated issues surrounding flooding, regional water quality and supply.
